Understanding Conditionals: (A complete guide to conditional sentences)
আমারা প্রথমে Conditionals সম্পর্কে কিছু basic ধারনা অর্জন করবো। একটি Conditional sentence সাধারণত দুইটি Clause এর সমন্বয়ে গঠিত হয়।
একটি Clause কে বলা হয় Conditional Clause (বা If Clause) এবং অন্য একটি Clause কে বলা হয় Main Clause (বা Result Clause)।
একটি Conditional sentence এর Main Clause বা Result Clause –এ আমারা যে Result দেখি বা নিজেরা প্রয়োগ করি সেটা Conditional Clause (বা If Clause) এর উপর Depend করে হয়। নিছের কয়েকটি Conditional sentence এর example দেখলে এটা সম্পর্কে পুরোপুরি Clear হয়ে যাবেন।
এখন আমারা শিখবো একটি Conditional sentence এর সাধারণ গঠন কয় ভাবে হয় এবং কিভাবে তা হয়ে থাকেঃ
আমরা একটি Conditional sentence এর গঠনকে দুই ভাবে দেখাতে পারি। একটু ভালোভাবে লক্ষ্য করুণ। নিচে একটি Conditional sentence এর দুই রকম গঠন স্পষ্ট করে দেখানো হয়েছে।
(1) {If clause} , {main clause}.
If you come, I will go.
(2) {Main Clause} {if clause}.
I will go if you come.
যখন আমারা If clause টিকে আগে বসাই তখন, আমরা একটি ( , ) কমা দ্বারা clause টিকে একটু আলাদা করে রাখি। কিন্তু যখন If clause টিকে আমারা পরে বসাই, তখন মাজখানে কমা ব্যবহার করিনা।
বাক্যটিকে আরো একটু জোরালো করতে আমরা Main Clause-এ then ব্যবহার করতে পারি।
If you come, then I will go.
কখনো কখনো If clause একটি বাক্যের মাজখানে ব্যবহৃত হতে পারে। কিন্তু এমন সচারাচর দেখা যায়না।
It is possible, if my mother permits, to go out at night.
কারো সাথে গল্পগুজব করার ক্ষেত্রে অনেক সময় আমারা শুধু Main Clause টি ব্যবহার করি, কারণ সেখানে If clause ব্যবহার না করলেও চলে। পূর্বের কথার উপর ভিত্তি করে সহজে বাক্যটা বুঝা যায়।

Zero Conditional
Zero Conditional এর গঠনঃ
If + present simple, present simple.
If I wake up late, I am late for work.
If it rains, the grass gets wet.
কিন্তু আমারা চাইলে এখানে যে কোনো clause –ই অন্য Present tense গুলো ব্যবহার করতে পারি। যেমনঃ Present Perfect অথবা Present Continuous।
Prawns are very risky to eat if they haven’t been kept at the right temperature.
If she is going to school, she knowswhere it is.
আবার আমারা চাইলে যেকোনো clause-এ Modal verbs ব্যবহার করতে পারি। বিশেষ করে, Can এবং May ।

Tips:
আমারা Zero Conditional ব্যবহার করি যেসব ক্ষেত্রে সেগুলো হয়তো চিরন্তন সত্য নতুবা বৈজ্ঞানিক ভাবে প্রমানিত।
যেমনঃ
If you freezewater, it becomes a solid. (বৈজ্ঞানিক ভাবে প্রমানিত)
If the sun rises, birds flyin the sky. (চিরন্তন সত্য)
If you mix red and blue, you get purple. (বৈজ্ঞানিক ভাবে প্রমানিত)
If it rains, the grass gets wet. (চিরন্তন সত্য)
